Lovi Poe appears on ABS-CBN to talk about her late father, Fernando Poe Jr. (2025)

Lovi Poe recalled unforgettable moments with her father, the late Action King Fernando Poe Jr.

Born Lourdes Virginia, Lovi is the daughter of Da King with former actress Rowena Moran.

FPJ had a stroke and went into coma before passing away on December 14, 2004. At that time, Lovi was only 15 years old.

During the April 20 episode of Showbiz Inside Report, Zoren Legaspi asked Lovi when she noticed that she still needed her father.

"May mga moments na hinahanap ko siya, especially sa mga special occasions like graduations or Christmas parties.

"But hindi ako nagdu-dwell sa pain na I'm currently feeling.

"That was how my mom brought me up. My mom brought me up feeling so secure."

Zoren asked, "Tinuruan mo ba ang sarili mo?"

Lovi admitted, "It just happened through time. Once you get good in blocking off things, sometimes it becomes something na hindi mo na napapansin. Okay ka na, eh. Okay ka na pala eh."

DAD PROVIDES VIDEO CAMERA. Zoren then asked Lovi to recall moments with her dad that she will always treasure.

She narrated an incident that took place when she was younger.

"Papunta ako sa isang cheering competition at may dala akong video camera. Gift yun sa akin ng mom ko.

"Tumakas ako sa bahay kasi hindi ako pinayagan ng mom ko. Nag cab ako with my friends.

"Pag-uwi ko ng bahay, nawala ko yung camera kasi naiwan ko dun sa cab.

"Kabadong-kabado na ako. The first thing na ginawa ko, I called my dad...I needed help. Binigyan niya ako ng bagong camera na exactly the same [model] para hindi ako mabuking."

On hindsight, Lovi pointed out, "It's not exactly tolerating his daughter but being there..."

How much does Lovi miss her dad? "I miss him so much everyday.

"Lahat naman ng ginagawa ko reminds me of him."

Zoren also asked Lovi to look back on instances when she cried because of memories of her dad.

"Maraming nights na ganun," revealed the 24-year-old actress. "Especially kung may pinagdadaanan ka na mabigat na problema."

"Minsan humihingi ako ng tulong sa kanya, kinakausap ko siya."

LAST MOMENTS WITH DA KING. Lovi considers the passing away of her father in 2004 as the most challenging period of her life.

"Sa ospital, yun na siguro ang pinakamasakit siguro na nangyari sa
akin."

She describes that time as an "unbelievable teleserye moment."

Lovi says simply, "Mahirap kasi mag goodbye."

"I got to see him before when he was still alive and when he was dying, that was the last time I saw him."

Is that day still fresh on Lovi's mind?

"Fresh siya kung kailangan kong buksan. I have this thing na kailangan kong buksan kung kailangan kong umiyak."

MY WINGS, MY GRAVITY. A few years ago, the actress decided to have the phrases "My Wings, My Gravity" tattoed on either side of her torso.

Lovi got these tattoos at the time of her father's first death anniversary.

"I woke up one morning feeling so sad and first thing na pumasok sa utak ko was 'My Wings, My Gravity. It's about my dad, it makes me fly and it pulls me back to the ground. It's a positive and negative thing."

It seems she had doubts about getting body ink since she revealed: "After I got that, after a week, nag-inquire ako na ipatanggal siya.

"Because it was very impulsive. Everything was changing about me at that time--from Lovi at 16 to someone who is getting tattos and dressing like this."

Another tattoo on her body also refers to her relationship with her late father. The phrase "Quiet Child" is also tattooed underneath her rib cage.

"Yung 'Quiet Child' is tungkol rin kay Papa. It means I'm the quiet child because nobody knows the whole story, our whole story."

Did Lovi think that she would achieve fame?

"Hindi ko ine-expect na papasok ako sa showbiz. Ayaw rin ng mom ko.

"It always started by proving something about myself."

LOVE SCENE MOVES LOVI TO TEARS. When she does sensitive love scenes for projects, the actress says that she is sometimes moved to tears because "hindi siya madaling gawin."

She cited one particular scene that she shot for the upcoming movie The Bride and the Lover, where she will act opposite Paulo Avelino and Jennylyn Mercado.

"Meron akong ginawa sa The Bride and the Lover that really made me cry.

"Pag gumagawa ako ng love scene, pwede kang dumaya sa mga galaw mo kasi you're kissing someone.

"Mahirap although kailangan siya sa eksena. It's a transformation kasi ng character."

How has Lovi changed over the years?

"I'm a lot stronger now," declares Lovi with a smile.
